Compare ยท SEO and audit suites
SiteAssay vs Semrush
Semrush is the largest SEO suite there is, and if you rank websites for a living you probably need one. It is built for the sites you already manage. SiteAssay is built for the sites you have not won yet.
In one line
Semrush tells you how to improve a site you already work on. SiteAssay finds the businesses whose sites are broken, proves it, and drafts the first email.
What Semrush does better
- Keyword research and search-volume data, which we do not attempt at all
- Backlink index depth, rank tracking and competitor share of voice
- Content, advertising and social tooling that has nothing to do with auditing
- Month-on-month reporting for retained clients you have already signed
Published pricing: From $117/mo on annual billing, up to $417/mo. AI visibility is a separate add-on listed at $99/mo per domain.
Semrush alternative: when it is the right call
You are not short of SEO data. You are short of new business, and a keyword tool has never once told you which local business to call this morning.
Capability by capability
Every entry in the Semrush column is taken from their own published pricing and feature pages on the date at the foot of this page. Where something is not part of their product, the row says that rather than implying it.
| Capability | SiteAssay | Semrush |
|---|---|---|
| Finds businesses that are not already your clients | Search a trade and a city, and every result is audited | You supply the domain |
| Technical site audit | Yes, every check listed on the methodology page | Yes, Site Audit is a core part of the suite |
| Backlink index and keyword research database | Not measured, and not planned | The deepest in the category |
| Email deliverability: SPF, DKIM, DMARC, blacklists | Checked on every audit | Not part of the suite |
| Security exposure: leaked keys, open paths, TLS | Checked on every audit | Not part of the suite |
| AI search visibility | Scored on every audit at no extra charge | Published as a paid add-on, priced per domain |
| Contact details for the business | Found alongside the audit, from published sources | Not in scope |
| Outreach drafted from the findings | Drafted from the report, held for a person to approve | Not in scope |
| Priced on | Searches and audits | Seats, projects and tracked keywords |
Questions this raises
What is the best Semrush alternative for an agency doing outbound?
It depends what you use Semrush for. Nothing here replaces its keyword and backlink data, and we would not pretend otherwise. If what you actually need is a supply of local businesses with measurable website problems, plus a report you can put your own logo on, that is the job this product was built for. Most agencies end up running both rather than swapping one for the other.
Is SiteAssay cheaper than Semrush?
The entry plans are not directly comparable, because Semrush prices seats, projects and tracked keywords while we price searches and audits. The one line that is comparable is AI visibility: Semrush publishes it as a per-domain add-on, and here it is one of the scored categories on every audit at no extra charge.
Can I use both?
Most agencies should. Semrush is where you work on a client site after you have won it. This is where you work out which businesses are worth approaching in the first place.
